The Elkhart Truth reports steering committee member Shelley Moore says the 170,000 square-foot facility is slated to be complete mid-to-late next year.
The center is a collaboration of the Community Foundation of Elkhart County, Beacon Health System, Regional Cities Initiative, Elkhart Community Schools and the city of Elkhart, and includes funding support from the state’s Regional Cities Initiative. Leaders say the facility will be focused on the local community, but become a regional draw.
The publication reports the center’s main infrastructure, such as plumbing, is complete. The Elkhart Truth says over $68 million in funding has already been secured. The project is part of the planned $300 million River District in the Elkhart County city.
